About Allie Hampton
I came to Vancouver Island to start over. My marriage ended, I was a single mom with three teenagers, and I needed somewhere to rebuild. So I got my license and went to work. Before that I worked in mental health and disability management, then left my career to be a full-time caregiver for my three neurospicy kiddos. For two decades my time wasn't mine. The only thing that really changed when my marriage ended was that I had to earn the income too. We landed in Sidney knowing nobody, no family nearby, nothing to fall back on. What I didn't expect was the belonging. Our neighbours looked out for us before they had any reason to, and one of them, another single mom, is now a close friend. We started in a condo where the kids each took a room and I slept in the living room. Then a house, which taught me I'm not a yard person and that a family can have more house than it uses. Then this townhome. Fifteen hundred square feet, and I already use about half of it. They're launching one at a time, and the math on this place is getting pretty obvious. So I'm inside the same two questions I ask my clients over coffee. How much house does a life actually need? And where should that life be? I know I want the ocean. The harder one is which community I want to belong to next. I'm an introvert at heart, so I want my days off people-free and still want to come back out to somewhere that feels like home. Hardly anyone works that part through before they buy. I'm working on my own answer, and I think it's somewhere out around the boat-access islands. So when you tell me you've been dreaming about a place by the ocean and aren't sure it's realistic, I'm not guessing. I'm somewhere in the middle of it too. What it really costs, whether now is the right time, and what happens to the house you're in. That's the part I'm actually here for.
